GURPS, the Generic Universal Role Play System, has cooked up its own playable rendition of Number Six's ordeal.

This was released years ago and went almost immediately out of print. I should know because I looked everywhere for it back then. It doesn't look like they're reprinting it any time soon.

So it was popular enough to sell out, but not successful enough, in Steve Jackson Games' opinion, to warrant another printing? That's too bad.

Actually, there is a GURPS world book for the Prisoner that I think is pretty good. I've never run a campaign from it that book, but I've used the GURPSS system, and while it has its drawbacks, on the whole I think it works pretty well.

Were I to run it, I'd try to add some personal touches so it's not just a run through of the show.

Back in the late 80's when I was a regular roleplayer one of the members of my group came up with a freeform Prisoner roleplay. It only lasted for one afternoon but it was great, we were each given carefully created characters, some of us were working for the village, some of us were trying to escape and, I believe, some of us were foreign intelligence agents there for whatever reason. I think it's an ideal setting for a good, backstabbing style of RPG.

how about the vampire thang--you know people in "real" life acting out the prisoner and its nuances

ya know escape from their place of business and telling their boss that they are #2 (ha ha don't get fired now)

or kind of like that game assassin (with dart guns)--40 or so people involved but playing across a city--gotta have some sort of identification as to was working for the village or trying to escape

a Prisoner LARP is a great idea. I'm not sure I can wear a skimmer and those dorky tennis shoes with a blue blazer in public....

          Not a bad idea...

The GURPS Prisoner book is quite well done and the gaming system fits most of what is likely to happen in a Village-based RPG campaign.
